Operationalisation of sustainable tourism and geotourism in ARENA IF is intended to:

• Provide information more relevant to management of companies, destinations and authorities compared to what current management systems can contribute to in the devleopment of the Norwegian tourism industry towards the goal of sustainable tourism and the principle of geotourism
• Contribute to changes on company, destination and Fjord Norge level in a way that can adjust product development and marketing to the goal of sustainable tourism and the principles of geotourism

Operationalisation of sustainable tourism and geotourism in ARENA IF should further contribute to the reinforcement of the national strategy of product development and the promotion of the tourism industry associated with the concepts of sustainable tourism and geotourism.

There is a vast number of examples of operationalisation of sustainable tourism and related consepts in different forms of checklist and indicator models.  We will focus on international and national experiences of operationalisation of sustainable tourism, ecotourism and geotourism.
