Halvor holds a PhD on climate change adaptation  governance from Aalborg University and have extensive experience in collaborative climate change adaptation research and environmental governance. He has studied adaptation to climate change in Norwegian municipalities, including agenda-setting and implementation of this issue at the difference governance levels. He held a particular research focus on the Arctic, where he studies local responses to global change through the lense of nature based tourism and natural resource management. He held expertize in collaborative research methods and co-production of knowledge for sustainability transformation.

From 2008 to 2011 he worked as a research fellow at CICERO (Center for International Climate and Environmental Research- Oslo).  Halvor held a Masters degree in Human Geography from the University in Bergen. In his thesis he studies how farmers in Himalaya, Nepal, adapted their water management system to disappearing glaciers and new technology. Dannevig is a PI in several international research projects, has served at the board of the Research Council of Norway's program for Polar Research and has been a delegate and vice-chair in the International Arctic Science Committee's (IASC) working group for social sciences and humanities.
